It calls for 91 octane fuel. However the engine does have a know sensor so it will adjust ignition timing to keep from damaging the engine if a lower octane fuel is used.
The fuel filter for your s500 is located on the rear passenger side under the car about 12 inches from the tire,, also theres the fuel pumps

The Crankshaft Position Sensor is located on the drivers side between the motor and the firewall. If it is faulty you may notice your car will not start, will turn off unexpectedly or will perform intermittently. the fuel filter is on the side of the rear passenger seat in front of the gas tank. you have to remove a plastic cover to get to it.
It is located at the rear of the engine under the black air box. Black round sensor with a electrical connector connected to it.
