It is in the engine compartment of the car. After opening the hood, look in the back drivers side corner, right beside the spring to the hood. Their is a black compartment with two knobs. Unscrew the knobs and the cover comes off, there's fuses. The back of the black cover usually can tell you what each fuse is for.

check your fuses in the main fuse box first, located under bonnet in front of driver. there should be a reference in the fuse box of which fuse supplies the climate control fan. Otherwise if Ok then chk the Relay located behind the fuses

Well that answer MAY not be right. 300 series eh. well there was a problem of the motor drawing more current as it got older and burning the box. Mercedes issued a bulletin to place an external fuse on the fender right near the fuse box. Its just over an inch long black plastic with a strip of metal in it. Doesnt really look like a fuse. If its an old mercedes, its probably not the fuse, but the motor. They wallow out their bushings and destroy the brushes. on the 300d its located in fuse box in the #8 slot, is a blue one 25 amp n0rt

If the 1980 300D is the same as my 1985 300D, the fuse box is NOT inside the car under the dash, but under the hood on the back firewall separating the engine from the cabin. It is all the way right as you face the car front on the driver's side just under the hood. It has a hard plastic cover with double hand screws that you need to remove. To get the fusebox cover out of that small space, you need to pull the rubber hood molding off of the body of the car at the hood opening just above it. It slips right back on. Your manual will show you which fuse sockets are for which circuits.
