On a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer :

Open the drivers door and in the drivers end of the dash you will see a

removable plastic fuse panel cover . The fuses are behind the cover

Also , the power distribution box ( which is " live " ) is located in the engine

compartment , on the drivers side , near the firewall
