You Have to remove the gearbox oil sump than you will see a square oil filter.

To remove the gearbox from a Volkswagen Polo the engine must be hoisted out of the car. Several of the engine components must be removed including the exhaust manifold and clutch lines. The gearbox is held on by several large bolts to the engine.
Recommended grade is 75W/90 synthetic.
Depends on gearbox ( auto or manual ). Front of gearbox a little way up near to bellhousing. Requires hex key.

1-3-4-2 with no. 1 spark plug being on the cam-belt side of the engine and no. 4 plug by the gearbox end.
Jack up the car and put stands under it then look and see where it is leaking.
