nice question
& there are several ways to answer it
first
the way most people make the journey
traveling by road across Delaware on interstates 95 & 295
the halfway point in distance between the Maryland & New Jersey state lines falls on interstate 95
in between exits 4b & 5a
about 3 quarters of the way from the little green mile marker numbered 8 to the one numbered 9
but the halfway point in driving time is likely to fall much closer to the Delaware memorial bridge owing to the greater traffic congestion in eastern Delaware than in western Delaware
however
an entirely different answer can be arrived at by disregarding the means & route & time of travel
& simply measuring the halfway point by distance alone
as the crow flies so to say
between the closest points of Maryland & New Jersey to each other
wherever they happen to be
& this answer happens to fall at or very near the westernmost corner of the city of odessa Delaware
where it is actually less than 6 miles to both state lines in opposite directions
at the same time
traveling other than by interstate & or other than as a crow
many other halfway points are possible
for example
sailing or swimming in the ocean
the halfway point is about 2 miles off Indian river inlet at the Delaware seashore state park
while sailing or swimming in the intracoastal waterway
the halfway point would fall roughly at the route 7 bridge over the chesapeake & Delaware canal just west of saint georges Delaware
but there is nothing that says you couldn't take a longer way around either
or go by other means
among the longest of the long ways
the halfway point would be near Australia
& if you leave the earth entirely or even the solar system
then you could of course make the halfway point much farther than Australia
but the truth is
it is how you yourself decide to go or to measure that makes the halfway point what it is
The halfway point is New York
The halfway point between Mount Laurel, New Jersey, and Fairfax, Virginia, is Aberdeen, Maryland, on I-95 just south of the mouth of the Susquehanna River.
