There is no heater control valve on the '92 Ford Ranger 4.0L V6, or I believe on the 3.0L V6. It is an open system. There is a vacuum control valve in behind the heating/cooling controls. Check those lines for perishing. Possibly the control wires on those same controls could be jammed or disconnected. If you have no heat, it could be that your heater core is plugged, if it proves not to be, it is possible for the main radiator to have a flow problem. You will have to drain the coolant, remove the rad, make positive connections on one of the the hose connections and push water through it to check the flow. As a side note; if the water pump needs replaceing you will have an over heating problem and if the thermostat if faulty it would be jammed open and not cause a lack of heating.
