It's in the antechamber. You will have to have some practice with the boost ball to get it. On one side is a save station and the other side is the ice beam. I think that's how it goes. I don't remember how to get there.

∙ 13y agoThe Ice Beam is located in a small room inside of The Reflecting Pool (room). It is located just past the Hall of Elders room. You need the boost ball to get it though. To get it, drain the water in the pool, and then a half-pipe configuration will appear. Boost up to the top floor and claim your prize. There are two doors at the top - a save station and the Ice Beam.

∙ 13y agoTo get the ice beam you first need the wave beam and spider ball. Go to the entrance to the furnace (Chozo ruins) and head up the spider ball track. you'll reach a new area of the ruins. after exploring a bit you'll find a room with a pool and some stone toads. drain the pool, and boost ball to the top. enter the left room (antechamber) (facing the way you entered) and the ice beam will be waiting for you there. no bosses, just ice beam.

∙ 13y agoAfter you get the speed booster, go back to the first room of Norfair. Then enter the top room to the left. Then use the speed booster to get passed the closing hatches. An alternative, you can sequence break to it via the mockball glitch. But before doing so, defeat Kraid and get the Varia suit.

∙ 13y agoThe ice beam missle combo (the "ice spreader") is found in magmoor caverns, in a room labeled "shore tunnel."
The room is nothing but a tube to get from one room to another. There are many places like this one, but it is characterized by cracks all over the glass. Drop a morph ball bomb here, and the glass will shatter, allowing you to hop outside of it and grab the combo.
While the combo is not in any way needed to complete the game (whereas the super missile is, and the wavebuster helps to defeat the invisible robot in the dynamo) it certainly comes in handy against Metroid prime, and is the only way to temporarily freeze it.

It's not very likely. The Ice Missile was only implemented to replace the signature Ice Beam in Metroid Fusion (Where it was not compatible with Samus' metroid DNA) and Metroid Prime 3 (Where the Plasma Beam and the Ice Beam would not have worked well with each other in the beam stacking system) and the Diffusion Missile had nothing to do with the Diffusion Beam (Although they did have similar functions).
