Follow the spark plug wires to the rear of the engine and you will find the coil packs.

Per Haynes guide book it is 1-4,2-5,3-6.
follow the spark plug wires to the front of the engine where they connect to the coil packs, remove the coil packs by removing the screws on top and on bottom of each and the I.C.M. is the plate that comes off with the coil packs. the screws should be a 5.5 or 6 m.m.
Check the crank sensor
If your car has EIS ignition ( distributorless) and it is a 6 cylinder, then you have three separate coil packs. They are all grouped together, however, they can be replaced individually. Each coil pack fires two cylinders.

On a 96, coil packs (3) are located above rear valve cover, near firewall.

The ignition modulator sits directly behind the coil packs. The coil packs mount onto the ignition modulator.
