If by accident you tapped in to the high pressure side, you could end up with a can over pressurized. If you add refrigerant and it has stop leak added you can not have it serviced by a professional as the stop leak will ruin his $5000.00 machine. If it is low enough to need servicing, then you have a leak. Just because the compressor does not come on does not mean it is low on refrigerant. It could be an electrical problem.
