That big round thing attached to the master cylinder is a 'booster'; if your vehicle has 'power brakes'. Hydralic fluid becomes pressurized in the master cylinder when you stomp on the brake pedal...this pressure is directed by the brake lines (steel tubing) to the wheel cylinders (slave cylinders) which expand under pressure; forcing the brake pads/shoes against the brake drum/rotor. It's called a master cylinder because it actuates the slave cylinders....contact the ACLU or the NAACP if that's a problem!
