At Petco you can make your own cat or dog ID tag. They have a machine that does it. You put your money in the machine, and type in what you want the ID tag to say. It embosses the words onto a metal tag, and then dispenses the tag.
The id tag is located on the top of the bell housing on the drivers side. It is a white tag and is 10 digits

Every dog should wear a collar. On most collars there is a metal piece where the ID tags should be attatched. Separate the metal coil on the ID tag and twist it around until the ring is secure on the collar. This is also where the county ID tag will go. It is also a very good idea to have your pet microchipped. A small microchip is inserted under the skin of the animal. If the pet is lost all county pounds and vets have scanners that will scan over the pet's chip and display his vital information, including owner's name and address.
There are a number of places where one can get customized metal asset tags made. Online ID Plate, My Asset Tag and Seton all provide customizable tags for marking assets.
