Brush fires typically occur in agricultural fields, meadows, deserts, or rural vacant areas during a prolonged period of no rain. The Western United States and Australia have been know to have significant brushfires.
The term bushfire, rather than brushfire, is unique to Australia. Bushfires in Australia can occur anywhere, but are most common in the southern states which have very hot, dry summer seasons.

∙ 9y agoWild fires are most common in the western states. This is because of the climate (drier) and also because there is more undeveloped land. Then you might ask, why is there more undeveloped land? Many reasons: there is more farm stock (cows, sheep, etc.) in the western states, requiring more undeveloped land for them to graze; eastern states have had more time (200 years or so) to become developed; mountains in the western state just aren't that easy to develop. One other interesting note: fires rage out of control more often in the western states because the hills and mountains make getting in there to put fires out harder AND the mechanics of fire and combustion (updrafts, etc.) make them burn faster and hotter.
