Drive Motor Tachometer Error The control is unable to properly detect motor speed and the machine will shut down. If a failure occurs during high-speed spin the door will be unlocked after 3 minutes. Potential Causes • Check wire harness connections between the Drive Motor/Tachometer and the Motor ControlUnit (MCU), and between the MCU and the Central Control Unit (CCU) • Check the Drive Motor • Check the MCU • Check the Wire Harness
this is a communication error, the two printed boards in the control panel are not talking to each other, could be a few things drive motor ,pump motor ,motor control board, main control board ,ohm out the motors and the wiring to them, check the capacitor, make sure the pump motor spins freely, could have blockage in the pump,if all these check out ok probably the motor control board, check to make sure you have 120 volts to the board, check across the fuse mounted on the board there is a good wiring diagram inside the metal housing of the unit
Since direct drive motor is a more complex part of a washing machine, it is better to let it be handled by an expert. Its mechanisms are unlike that of a belt-driven washer. You should have it checked by a repair man. Most direct drive washers have longer warranty on the motor. Check your model of washer and find out if it has a longer warranty.

It depends on what type of washer it is. If it's a GE model, and the motor / transmission is good most likely your problem is the Agitator Coupler which is located beneath the agitator If the washer is made by Whirlpool / Kenmore and the motor / transmission is good most likely your problem is the Agitator Dogs which are located inside the agitator Both are easy and inexpensive fixes
I own a 1958 Maytag washer, it replaced a dead six year old Whirlpool washer(Motor windings fried) The Whirlpool was about 48 years younger and 1/3 the weight of the aging Maytag. It is about 1/10 the quality of the '58 beauty and now rots in crappy plastic parts in the woods. My 1958 was made in the USA, the crappy Whirpool in China. My 1958 Maytag will still be here after the Whirpool (who bought out Maytag) rots into the ground.
