Neutral switch is on the drivers side mid point of trans. It is common for the plug to fall off switch causing a no start situation. The plug to switch is a round plastic 2 wire which becomes brittle and won't stay on switch. Trim the plastic pinch the female terminals so a tight fit can be had. The plug is about the size of a quarter coin.
A manual trans doesn't have a neutral switch.

I have been struggling with mechanics and parts people on replacing neutral safety switch on 1994 dodge caravan (it won't start in "park" sometimes, but will start with gear shift sliding behind the "neutral" area - dealer parts mgr. tells me this is not the neutral safety switch at all, but the "prindle" switch -- anyone heard that one before? we will see when I give the diagram and part to my gas sta. mechanic. Hi there, new to this, so I'm just adding to your answer. Its not a 'prindle' switch, its PRND1 -park-reverse-neutral-drive-first.
