It is part of the overall ignition switch (not key cylinder) in the column. Remove the kickpanel under the steering column (this will require a torx socket of the correct size). Then remove the two nuts holding the steering column up.
I can't recall if it is mounted to the top or bottom of the column (been 9 years since I removed one), but you should see a large number of wires going into a piece about 2-3" by 3-4". Those wires are plugged into the overall switch. I would check for loose wires, then *carefully* unplug the connector all the wires are in and check for bad contacts.
Can you by-pass the neutral safety switch on a 1997 ford mustang 3.8
Left side of transmission!
The safety switch is located under the radiator belt. You can trace the positive wire from the battery and it will end up at the safety switch.

If your 1991 Mercedes 300E only starts in neutral, it is likely due to a malfunctioning neutral safety switch. This switch prevents the engine from starting in gear to ensure safety. A faulty or misaligned switch may not detect that the transmission is in park or may have a weak connection, allowing the car to start only in neutral. It’s advisable to have the switch inspected and replaced if necessary.
Disconnect the 2 wires from the switch and connect them together
Neutral safety switches are usually at the end of the shift linkage vale at the transmission
On the Transmission under the shift cable. Drivers side on top.
In a 1991 Infiniti G20, the neutral safety switch is typically located on the transmission. It is mounted on the transmission's side and is connected to the shift lever mechanism. This switch prevents the engine from starting unless the transmission is in the "Park" or "Neutral" position. To access it, you may need to lift the vehicle and remove any necessary undercarriage coverings.
Probably the ignition switch. HavE IT CHECKED OUT> neutral safety switch......located under the shifter panel
Automatic transmissions have what is called a Neutral Safety switch. This eliminates the possibility of accidentally starting your vehicle in reverse or any forward gear. The vehicle will only start in park or neutral. Chris
