The exat location of the spark plugs depends on whether you have a 3.0 DOHC 24 valve engine or a 3.0 OHV 12 valve engine. Follow the spark plug wires, which are the large grey colored electrical wires you see near the top of the engine. They will lead you right to the spark plugs.
The PCV valve on a 3.0 Ford Taurus is on top of the engine. Valve is at the front of the engine and is easily accessible.

if the spark plug wires go down the middle of the valve cover, it is DOHC. The Intake Manifold will also say Duratec. The OHV motor will have the spark plug wires connecting on the bottom of the head near the exhaust manifolds.
The PCV valve on a 2004 Ford Taurus should be on the left side of the engine. It plugs into the valve cover at the rear of the cover.

Taurus uses chains. If it is a 3.0 liter 12 valve engine, it has one chain. If it is the 3.0 DOHC 24 valve engine, it has two chains.

On the 4.2 inline 6, the 4th cylinder from the front of the engine is number 4. The engine is a coil on plug, the spark plug is located under the coil in the center of the valve cover.
