it is located on the bottom of the motor mounted vertically. yes when you unscrew it the oil in the filter will run down the sides of the filter onto your nice driveway, hand, shirt, etc. get a trash bag or "painters" cloth and lay it down before you undo the filter. if this is your first oil change it is a canister blue in color. lay under the truck and slide back past the crossmember and you will see it.
