The oil filter is under a metal cap held in with three hex bolts just next to the exhaust pipe on the right side of the bike. You can't miss it once it's pointed out. You have to remove the cover and then access the filter.

2005 boulevard has a slide plate that cover the key slot to lock the front forks located on right side below the headlight. Hope this helps
If you look at the right side of the motor, you will see 3 Allen bolts about 2" away from each other in a triagle pattern. Take those off. Be carefull when you pull the triangular plate cap off, there is a spring inside....don't loose it. that's all there is the filter. By the way, the make lifetime filters, they are made all of metal mesh and you only have to wash themin your dishwasher with every oil chage.
The oil filter is located underneath the engine, passenger side. You will see it in a black plastic housing. The Volvo S40 doesn't use a traditional metal style oil filter. You can order the filter from your Volvo dealer or K&N makes one as well, model # HP-7002. You will need a special wrench to remove the filter, you can order this from your Volvo dealer or from Amazon.com (search for Volvo S40 filter wrench), made by AST/Assenmacher, cost is roughly $14.00.

In a 2007 Boulevard S40 the positive terminal of a battery is located where the red terminal is. Another characteristic that separates it from the negative side is the width of the positive terminal.
