Perhaps the"engine oil total" includes oil that remains in the engine after drain out. I just performed my own oil and filter change at 15000 miles and it took 5.5 quarts to refill to the full mark on the dip stick. I had the dealer do my prior oil and filter change and they over filled (at least a half a quart) and over tightened the oil filter cap. It should be torqued to 18 ft-lbs but it took over 40 ft-lbs to break it loose. Fortunately I had purchased a specific cap wrench for this filter. Oil ring changes were OK, but overall a canister filter is less work.
