A Briggs and Stratton 18 HP V-Twin engine has an oil capacity of 1.75 quarts when the oil filter is also changed. If the oil filter is left on, it will require 1.5 quarts.
18 hp. Kawasaki engine used on Kubota lawn tractor
About 18 inches from oil pan(towards front of engine) under/behind the front middle dust cover.
Most 18 hp engines and below did not come with a oil filter assembly. There are a few execptions out there, but those execptions are newer model engines only. Currently (2010) no engines with less than 18hp will come equiped with a oil filter. You have to ask the manufactures why they are moving in this direction.
If it is a 6 cylinder the oil filter is locater on the top of the engine just behind the oil filler cap that says MOBIL 1 it takes a 3/4 or 7/8 6 point socket open filler cap and drain oil frim pan then unscrew the filter on the top drivers side of engine the filter will be in the cap, replace filter and make sure the O ring seal is OK or replace it. then screw the holder back on to the engine, CAUTION DO NOT EVER TIGHTEN 16 TO 18 POUNDS MAX
The Briggs and Stratton push mower tune-up kit includes a pack of Stabil, 18 ounce bottle of oil, spark plug and air filter, so the correct answer would be 18 ounces. Always check the oil level level after refilling. According to Briggs & Stratton website it takes 22 ounces. If the engine is equipped with an oil filter add 4 ounces.
For 2.2L Ecotec tighten the oil pan drain plug to 25 N·m (18 lb ft). The oil filter cap is also tightened to the same spec.

The maintenance log booklet I got with my 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe said that with a oil and filter change it takes 5.49 quarts of oil. The following table is from the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe Workshop Manual, Page GI-14 LUBRICANTS CAPACITIES Description Gasoline(2.7) Gasoline(3.3) Oil pan 4.2(4.44,3.70) 5.5(5.81,4.84) Oil filter 0.3(0.32,0.26) 0.4(0.42,0.35) Engine Oil Total 4.5(4.75,3.96) 6.4(6.76,5.63) Not only are the values higher but the sum of the "oil pan" plus "oil filter" do not add up to "engine oil total". Perhaps the"engine oil total" includes oil that remains in the engine after drain out. I just performed my own oil and filter change at 15000 miles and it took 5.5 quarts to refill to the full mark on the dip stick. I had the dealer do my prior oil and filter change and they over filled (at least a half a quart) and over tightened the oil filter cap. It should be torqued to 18 ft-lbs but it took over 40 ft-lbs to break it loose. Fortunately I had purchased a specific cap wrench for this filter. Oil ring changes were OK, but overall a canister filter is less work.
