On a 1997 Ford Explorer, the AC relay for the compressor is typically located in the power distribution box under the hood. This box is near the battery, and the relay is usually labeled, making it easier to identify. You may also find the relay diagram on the underside of the box cover for reference. If you're troubleshooting, ensure to check the relay for proper function or replace it if necessary.
This part was updated, and a new relay from parts store will not look like the one you are trying to replace. Ours was a yellow box located up under the steering column. So if you bought one and can't find the part which looks like what you are trying to replace, look for a yellow box in the 97 Explorer, and apparently it is a blue box in the Ford Ranger. This replacement relay will work the flashers AND turn signals.
