On the bottom of the engine is a large metal cover called the oil pan. You may have to jack the car up and put jack stands underneath it to be able to reach the drain plug. Never work under a car which is held up by a jack! Always use jack stands, and make sure that the car is securely held before getting underneath it! Somewhere on this oil pan is a drain plug, which will allow the oil to drain out of the engine. The drain plug looks like the head of a bolt, and will have to be turned with a wrench to be loosened. Be very careful when removing it, because it can be stripped (rounded off) by using the wrong size wrench, or an improperly adjusted adjustable wrench. Make sure that you have a large drain pan under the plug before removing it. Be careful that any washer or gasket on the plug is not lost in the drain pan, as the plug will leak if this happens. When replacing the plug, be very careful that it is started in the threads correctly. Do not tighten the plug if it does not turn freely after one or two turns, as it may be cross-threaded. Make sure that the threads are started properly by turning the plug by hand several turns before using a wrench or ratchet.
