The starter for a1997 Camry is located on top of the transmission. It should be visible from the top and easy to remove.

Additional answer: No. On 4 cylinder cars, the alternator is on the driver's side. The speed sensor is located on top of the transmission, under the thermostat housing, located at the rear end of the lower radiator hose. Remove the air intake tube for better access.
