Take a peek at the washer bottle in the engine compartment.It should have two little pumps that set into it.This shows that both the windscreen, and rear wiper get their fluid from the bottle in the front.

depends on model, mine is a 1999 polo, open hatchback and remove screws from the handle then prise of the door cover all the way round, clips just spring out and re snap back in position, simple really.

its worth checking in boot area in case feed to rear washers has become disconnected as happened with mine last year. the boot was flooded and stank of stale water which collected in various places !!!! the feed runs along the passenger side of the car in the boot and under the rear seats if you tip them forward. check for any signs of damp .

The washer pump is underneath the passenger wing inner black plastic moulding 7/8 torque screws,,below the power steering pump,1 pump 2 exits to front and rear wash..they blow off when the jets get blocked,,or frozen,also,check underneath the abs unit,behind the battery as the pipe has a rubber connection there as well which comes off,tip fill the water press the washer control,,look where the water is coming from,,,on the floor,,regards everett .

if the switch lights up then check to see if the metal connectors and strips on the rear window are ok if they are then i would say the rear screen relay is broken.
