No! Per code, and for safety, all ground wires must be connected. If this is n older home with 2 wire wiring then you have no choice. I would suggest the house be rewired for the safety of you family.
The ground prong is connected to the computer chassis, including the outside of the power supply module. This is a safety feature to ensure that the metal case of the computer and power supply never becomes dangerously electrified in the event of a loose wire. Modifying the power cord not to have a ground prong would violate electrical codes intended to prevent accidental electrocution. That said, the ground prong is not essential for the normal operation of the computer, and the computer will still function without it. Proceed at your own risk.
An open ground is a severe safety issue. The ground needs to be connected to protect the user in case of appliance fault. Run new wire with a ground or call an electrician. Have it fixed, negligence is fatal.

Did you mean "Why does a lightning bolt go to the Earth ? " Because it's the shortest way to this kind of electricity to go. If an asteroid passes near two clouds charged positively and negatively, the lightning bolt will go towards the asteroid and not to the earth.
A Zener barrier is an intrinsic safety equipment. It allows short circuiting of cables to each other or to metallic parts connected to ground without danger.
Anything connected to the computer is called a peripheral
It is connected into the usb port on the computer. :D :P
Measure the ground resistance from the user end point, where earth or ground cable is connected. It will show a very high resistance or open if ground is broken.

Possibly It really depends on your vulnerability! If you have a great program for an antivirus and internet security then it's still somewhat possible but highly unlikely. It really depends on what you have for safety.
