Not necessarily. I took a look at a supplier and if you have the same engine, the front pipe is the same number. It is very likely that since the car bodies of these two are from the same series first generation Outback, and they have the same engine, the exhaust will interchange.

Do yourself a favor. Buy the Haynes Repair Manual for the Subaru Legacy & Forester 2000 thru 2006, the Haynes book number is 89101. Any reputable Auto Parts Store should have that for about 20 bucks. Good hunting...
how to find Subaru forester VIN numbers
The 15 Amp Fuse is the second from bottom on the right hand side of the Engine Compartment Fuse Box. (As per page 11-9 of the Owner's Manual).

Starter on a Subaru is one of the easiest starter changes since it is located at the top of the engine rather than under as many vehicles have. Has been a number of years since I did one but it was not difficult, involving removing other parts, like the air induction system until you can reach the fasteners that hold the starter in place. If you want detailed instructions you should purchase a Subaru service manual available from eBay sellers for around $10. It will be invaluable if you plan on doing maintenance on your Outback in the future. It is the first thing I buy after floor mats when I get a used car.
