The shift solenoid for a 2001 Grand Am is located on the side of the transmission. It is accessible by removing the transmission pan and the filter. The shift solenoid is mounted to the side of the transmission and is attached with two 7mm bolts. To access it you will need the following tools:
Once you have the tools you can remove the pan and filter to gain access to the shift solenoid. You will then be able to remove the two 7mm bolts and replace the shift solenoid.
