The smog pump is also known as an air pump. It's only purpose is to blow more air into the exhaust system to help burn up unused fuel and carbon monoxide in the exhaust.
Smog pumps have not been used for at least 20 years, as far I can recall. My 2000 Malibu does not have one. Better engine controls through electronics have allowed for this.
the secondary air injection system is the smog pump and valve. the valve is located on the exhaust manifold with 2 hoses leading to the smog pump which is located under the drivers side floor. it is electric.

The smog pump is located under the right front fender, I think you have to remove the tire to reach it. Good luck finding a replacement, if you do let me know, I am looking for one now.
