On a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer :
The tire jack and lug nut wrench are in the cargo area , on the drivers side , behind a removable plastic panel by the liftgate
The ( 2 ) rod sections used for putting the jack in position ( 1 section is used to lower the spare tire ) can be found just behind the rear seat ( go around to the passenger side and tip the seat back forward , lift the carpeted panel and you will see the ( 2 ) rod sections held in place with clips

how do you release the spare tire on a 2000 mercury mountaneer?
You don't say what model year , but 1997 to 2001 Mercury Mountaineer's have the tire jack in the cargo area , behind a removable plastic panel , on the drivers side , near the liftgate
I believe it's under the spare tire in the trunk
Actually , the first model year of the Mercury Mountaineer sport utility vehicle was 1997 and if you open the drivers door , on the end of the door you will see an information sticker that will show the size of the tire that originally came on the vehicle
where is the tire jack and jack handle located on a 2002 mercury mountaineer?????
The spare tire is under the carpet in the trunk
To remove the spare tire on a Mercury Mariner insert the jack handle into the hole provided on the rear bumper of the vehicle. Turn the jack handle clockwise to lower the spare from underneath the vehicle.
