The vehicle speed signal comes from the abs sensor on top of the rear axle. (used for speedometer)
The transmission output speed signal comes form the sensor on the driver side rear of the trans. ( used for shift timing only)
It does not use an input speed sensor.

The vehicle speed sensor is located on the top center of the rear axle.
The speed sensor is located on the left hand side of the transmission underneath the truck and when you pull it out you will lose tranny fluid but not allot The speedometer receives it signal form the rear axle abs sensor, not the trans output sensor.
If the abs light is on, then you might have a rear axle speed sensor issue. If not, then you have a cluster problem.
