In the 2001 Mazda Protege, the transmission plug is typically located on the side of the transmission case. It can be identified as a hexagonal or square-shaped bolt, depending on the transmission type. To access it, you may need to raise the vehicle and use appropriate tools to remove the plug for checking or adding transmission fluid. Always refer to the vehicle's service manual for specific details and instructions.
