There is a solonoid on the starter and the ignition switch is on the steering column.

The starter is located near the bottom front of the engine. You can follow the positive battery cable, from the battery directly to the starter.

NOT SURE ABOUT THE YEAR OF YOUR CAR BUT ON A 1987 GTS MODEL 2.2 ENGINE WITH TURBO, THE STARTER IS LOCATED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE ENGINE UNDER ALL OF THE FUEL INJECTION LINES. STADING BY THE FENDER YOU CAN SEE THE HOUSING IN THE TRANSMISSION WHERE IT IS BOLTED. UNFORTUNATLY THE REST IS SOMEWHAT HIDDEN. BEN.
The starter is located on the driver side below the intake all the way in the back. hooked up with two bolts to the transmission.
