I've never looked under the hood of an '83, but, I have an '84. I have both the wiring diagrams for each and it looks like your starter should be on the same side of the engine as mine (pass. side). My starter is below my oil filter and set further back. Also, I am pretty sure you can follow your starter solenoid main lead all the way to your starter motor. No. The door openings are not shaped the same, CJ-7 vs CJ-5.
YJ Wrangler doors and CJ-7 doors interchange. Just make sure the latch mechanisms on the doors and the strikers on the body are the same style. CJ-7 and YJ Wrangler hard tops interchange.
