It's under the intake manifold. Remove that & the starter is accessible.
On my 1998 Aurora with a 4.0L V8, the water pump is on the driver's side of the engine. It is right at the top of the engine.

It has the 4.0 Northstar V8...basically the Cadillac STS Engine with a smaller bore.
To replace t starter on a V8 Touareg, the engine must be removed. It is not something most people would be willing to tackle on their own.
Buy a starter for a L98 Chevy V8.
You did not state the engine but assuming it is the 360 v8. the starter is on the passenger side near the bottom of the engine and at the point where the engine bolts to the transmission.
v8 passenger bottom side of engine.
We have a 1998 V8 Olds Aurora, and it takes dex-cool engine coolant. It is the coolant that is orange colored. Wouldn't your small manual tell you the correct coolant to use?
Assuming it's a V8, the starter solenoid is attached to the starter, which is on top of the engine, beneath the intake manifold.
AnswerFrom 1995 to 1999 model years a 250hp 4.0L Northstar V8 was the only engine option. In 2001 and 2002 with the new body style a 215hp 3.5L V6 was offered along with the 4.0L V8 and in 2003 only the 4.0L V8 was offered. On the back of the car on the trunk under the licence plate, It will say "Aurora 3.5 or Aurora 4.0." This obviously indicates the size of the engine, you jackass.
