I have a 1996 GMC Sonoma 2.2
I have about the same question? If anyone can answer for me?

I have a brand new starter & Battery installed 3 months ago.Now it won't hit a lick.If I turn the ignition key over a few 20 times maybe it will startup.
Could it be a starter relay?
The starter on a 1998 GMC Sonoma is replaced by disconnecting the battery, removing the outer cover, and unbolting it from the engine. The wiring harness can then be disconnected, the starter removed, and a new one put in place.
The starter relay on a 1999 GMC Suburban with the bib block engine is located on the solenoid for the starter. The solenoid for the starter is on top of the starter.
Fuse/relay center under the hood
The 1997 GMC air conditioning relay switch can be found in the fuse box. The air conditioning relay switch will be in the third column, at the top.
The turn signal relay switch, on your 1995 GMC, is located beneath the dashboard on the drivers side. The relay switch simply plugs in and unplugs.
there is an access panel in the back of the glove box.
How do you figure the starter is okay just by popping the clutch? Popping the clutch uses the driveline to turn the motor over. The starter is not involved at all.
I have a 96 2.2 and had to drop the exhaust from the manifold in order to change the starter. and goos luck.
The two black relay boxes under the hood of a 1993 GMC Sonoma are fuse boxes that control part of the electronic devices in the vehicle. One of the boxes also houses the battery below it.
the starter relay is located in the fuse box under the hood behind the battery. i believe its the biggest relay from the rest of them.
Check fuel pump and fuel filter.
You Must take the exhaust off at the manifold.
