Just look at the top radiator hose. The tcu is screwed into the housing where the hose connects. ------------ I believe TCU stands for "transmission control unit." You're probably thinking of the thermostat. I'll recommend you to this longish edit I just made, detailing where the TCU is and how to remove it: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Where_exactly_is_the_transmision_computer_TCU_located_on_a_92_Mitsubishi_Diamonte&updated=1&waNoAnsSet=2

does a 1999 mitsubishi diamante with a 3.5 engine have a non interfrence engine
The Transmission Control Unit (TCU) on a 1992 Mitsubishi Diamante is typically located under the dashboard on the passenger side, near the floor. It may be mounted on or near the central tunnel or behind the kick panel. Accessing it usually requires removing some trim panels for better visibility and reach.
Theres a button on the drivers door, not on the section with window switchs below that near the bottom of the door
The TCU for 92-96 Diamante's is located under the dash, behind the console. You have to pull the carpeting outward on both the drivers and passengers side,up front on the center hump(where your inside foot is when you're sitting). The drivers side is tricky because of the gas pedal.Behind the carpet is a small metal cover on each side which needs to be removed with a screwdriver. The TCU is fitted into a bracket which is bolted down up front right near the firewall.Remove the nuts(it is real uncomfortable getting these nuts off),disconnect the cables and pull it out any way you can.Installation is the reverse.
SAE 10w30
Usually indicates that you have a TCU (transmission control unit) problem. Take the car to a transmission shop and have them run a diagnostic on the tranmission and TCU. TCU usually runs around $150 to replace but you can sometimes find them cheaper at a local junkyard.
I have a 92 Diamante Wagon. And the drain plug on my car is on the bottom left (driver side). You need a 22mm socket wrench to open it. Hope that helps.
