On a 2.5L 1994 YJ, we found the temp sending unit in a tapping at the rear of the cylinder head, in the lower corner toward the exhaust side. The replacement head was not tapped at that location, and we didn't discover that fact until after the head was installed. Does anyone know of an alternate location?
It is right behind the distributor, screewed into the top of the block.
If your Celebrity has the 2.5L 4 cylinder engine the oil sending unit is on the side of the block below the intake manifold. If your Celebrity has the 2.8L V6 the oil sending unit is on the lower side of the block next to the oil filter.
You can find the 1987 four Ranger 2.9 liter engine oil sending unit on the left-hand side of the engine. The oil sending unit will be near the oil filter.

The temperature sender is at located at the thermostat housing. It will have a a singel terminal electrical connector that slides onto the sender. It is directly below the thermostat (note it is where the upper radiater hose goes to the block).Simple autozone or advance auto parts carry this item.
Passenger side of block just above the starter
Bottom of engine block located inside the oil pan.
There is no difference what so ever. Same engines.
Just above the oil filter
Answer It's on the block on the right side of the motor (on the left if you are standing in front of the car looking at the engine). It's almost always easiest to remove the starter to replace it as there isn't much working room....Also if you have a turbo Z there is also another oil switch located on the oil pan which is the oil temperature sending unit......
