The tensioner pully is just to the left of the alternator. It is an arm with a round pully on the end of it. It has a square 3/8 ratchet attatchment. It is about 7 inches long.
Install a new tensioner pulley. If a serpentine belt is loose then the spring in the tensioner pulley is probably weak or the tensioner pulley is hanging up on something. Have fun! Chris
Replace the tensioner pulley
Just above the A/C pulley. The a/c pulley is a large ribbed pulley that has 3 bolts and a triangular plate on it. The tensioner is small and smooth and is just above the a/c pulley. more info and a pic here. http://www.rldassociates.com/zx2/howto/belt.htm
1. Pull the tensioner back with a 3/8 inch breaker bar and remove the belt. 2. Take the bolt holding the tensioner onto the head out. 3. Take the tensioner off.
The tensioner is spring loaded and there is provision for tightening it. To take it off take the bolt out that attatches it to the engine.
check tensioner pulley and idler pulley if equipped.
short answer: just above the ac pulley long answer:http://www.rldassociates.com/zx2/howto/belt.htm
near the belt
Where is the instrument panel relay located on a 1994 ford escort
The tensioner for the serpentine belt is a bracket with a pulley on it at the top left side of the engine in front. It has a 3/8 bracket to put a ratchet on. The tensioner pulley is spring loaded and once you have released the tension on the belt through the ratchet point the belt can be slipped off. The tensioner for the timing belt is inside the timing cover about midway on the engine.
If it is a 1.9,, then you point the arrow on the cam pulley up, at the dot on the head, and the crank pulley notch up, at the matching notch above it, and put on the belt. The tensioner is a bit of a hassle.
what engine??
