sometimes don't have one. bottom pulley 6 o'clock, should be a mark on bottom of oil pump, or a locking pin in the flywheel sets it. cam mark should be about 12 o'clock. new belt has two white lines. timing marks, set the bottom first.
The cam gear is on top/ and the crank gear is on top. Both at 12:00.
The timing mark on the top gear should be at 06:00, while the timing mark on the bottom gear should be at 12:00. IOW, they "point to each other" Good luck!
put the piston at top dear center and have the timing mark point to the 12 o clock position realitive to the engine. and assemble the chain
the diamond lines up about 12:00 and the triangle about 5:00 in line with the triangle mark on the inner cover
at top dead center, camshaft mark at 12 o'clock and crank at 5 o'clock. belt should also have marks if it a Nissan belt.
On the bottom crank there is a mark that needs lined up with the triangle sitting at 12 o'clock. The top crank has two lines on it that should be sitting at 12 o'clock and 3 o'clock. Hope this helps.
Align camshaft sprocket ( white dot ) with white arrow on top of back part of timing cover, and white dot on crankshaft sprocket with cast in timing mark on seal retainer ( aluminum casting below bolt at 12 oclock ) the key in the crankshaft will face up for tdc and align with timing mark.
The crank gear should be in the 12: oclock position & the cam gear should be in the 6: oclock position facing each other this is top dead center on compression stroke.
connect timing light to #1 cly. notice timing mark on cyl block. should read +12de -12 degrees on passenger side. also notice mark on crankshaft belt pulley. use timing light to set time 6 degrees befour top dead center
You don't and you can't. Just use the timing mark on the balancer and timing tab/ pointer. Line those 2 up with the # 1 pistion all the way up at the top of the cylinder on the compression stroke. If you are installing a timing chain and gears, just line up the dots on the crank gear and timing gear stright over top of each other. Crank gear will be at 12 Oclock and the cam gear dot will be at 6Oclock. You can't use the fly-wheel because it does not have any marks on it.
on the cam gear the mark should be at 6:00 or in other words the mark will be at the bottom of the gear when installed, on the crank gear the mark should be at 12:00 or at the top of the gear when installed, both marks will line up with each other.

to set top dead center of any engine you disconnect the spark plug lead on cylinder 1 and connect a timing light then turn over the engine by hand until the timing light lights and to check that it is top dead center look at the timing mark and pointer on the harmonic ballancer that the pointer is at the 0 mark (removing all plugs will make turning the engine easier)If you do not have a timing light you can use a 12 volt globe between the plug lead and earth. Good luck.
