The dipstick is at the front, right side of the engine when you are standing in front of the car looking under the hood. It is located between the distributor cap and black plastic air intake, and should have a round red handle. This is of course for and automatic tranny.
An easy way is to siphon the oil out through the dipstick tube using a small handheld pump then just top it up with fresh fluid, this won't replace all the fluid in the tranny but it will replace most of it and still increase the lifespan of the tranny.
I actually need to know the reverse. Will the 92 work on the 89.
yes
There is no transmission dipstick on a 92 Cavalier. The fluid is checked through a plug in the side of the transmission from underneath the car. It is most commonly checked while the vehicle is on a lift having the oil changed.
right next to the tranny, it has a red and black wire on it
Yes. It may be bigger but it will bolt on.
Someone Correct me if im wrong, but this trans should use something like 80W90 gear oil. On your car im not sure if you have a dipstick to check you trans level or not. I think there will be a plug on your tranny somewhere on the side to fill it at.
Should be towards the back of the motor youll see a red loop. I'm assuming of course this is an automatic (Dont ask--I had someone try to tell me that my old 92 S10 w/ a 5spd std trans- had a tranny dipstick)
Oil or tranny fluid? Oil- engine rear main seal. Tranny- Input shaft seal
Down the same tube that holds trans dipstick.
