It should be a black dipstick, near the drivers rear by the firewall.
A manual transmission doesn't have a dipstick
Get a small funnel and put it in through the dipstick hole.
If it's an automatic, right down the dipstick tube you checked it with.
If it is an automatic the dipstick is right next to the brake fluid master cylinder reservoir. If it is a stick shift there is not dipstick.
The automatic dipstick is located in a tube close to the brake/clutch mastet cylinder. The manual has no dipstick. You have to take the speed sensor and speedometer gear out of the top of the engine. Fluid level should be to the bottom of the gear.
The automatic transaxle dipstick is between the battery and the engine , it is towards the rear ( the manual transaxle does not have a dipstick )

With an automatic transmission, with the hood open, look close to the driver side firewall, the transmission dipstick is usually pretty short, but near the firewall area and driverside fender area.
