There is no dip stick on the transmission. If you look on the top of the transmission, you will find a RED cap. This cap is for adding Transmission Fluid if needed. The cap is on the centerline of the transmission and almost below the exhaust crossover pipe. you may need to remove the air filter box lid and snorkel to the intake manifold to get at it.
to check the fluid level you need to be under the car. There is a check plug that you remove while the engine is running while the transmission is in park. If the fluid RUNS (read not dribble) out of the hole it means the level is fine. if no fliud comes out it means you need to add until it starts to run out the hole.
* The check plug is located on the passenger side of the transmission. The plug faces the passenger tire.
* It is just foreward of where the half shaft comes out of the transmission and a little bit below it. if you are looking at where the half shaft comes out of the transmission the plug is at the 4 or 5 o'clock position.
* The plug is 11 millimeter/ 7/16th either will work fine
* The plug is set into the aluminum of the transmission case. there are no brackets or such being held down by it.
* As you remove the plug it is about 3/4 to 1 inch threaded.
200 Chevy Malibu has a sealed system, so it does not have a dipstick to check the transmission fluid. If there are issues, one has to check the fluid while the car is running.
To change the transmission fluid on your Chevy Malibu 2005, first, pull off the pan, drain the fluid, and replace it.
A 2004 Chevy Malibu uses standard Dexron III transmission fluid. This is a widely available fluid used by many GM vehicles.

There should be two dipsticks under the hood on a Malibu. One will be plainly marked "OIL" or "ENGINE OIL." The other one is your transmission fluid. This is assuming your Malibu has automatic transmission. If your Malibu has a manual transmission (stick shift), then there is no dipstick for transmission fluid -- manual trannies get lubrication from the engine oil.
The transmission fluid capacity is 6.9 quarts (it requires Dexron III fluid).
The transmission fluid capacity of a 2004 Chevy Malibu is approximately 7.5 quarts. The actual capacity varies depending on the amount of fluid in the torque converter.
