When standing behind the car with the trunk open, the light is underneath the left side. You need to stick your head in there and look up. It's a small (1"x2") plastic lense. Pop that out and you can unplug the light assembly from the wire connector. As with many items on German cars, it is needlessly complicated and overengineered. (great for engines and transmissions, not so great for light bulbs...)

A 2001 Jetta has an emergency trunk release lever along the side of the trunk. It allows children or those accidentally locked in the trunk to easily escape from inside.
I had this problem once on my 2000 jetta. When I took it into the shop, they told me that the latch assembly was at fault. Once replaced, I had light in the trunk again. So, my guess is that the light switch part of the latch is faulty and not turning on the light.
If the trunk lid isn't actually ajar, the switch has gone out of alignment, or it broke.
The 2005 Volkswagen Jetta has 8 valves.
The trunk lid is open.
you have to open the trunk and behind the carpet you have to pull off, and then unscrew the bolt and push in the sides to open and then you will see a light bulb and then replace it.
The 2005 Volkswagen Jetta is a gas-powered vehicle.
The 2005 Volkswagen Jetta has an inline 4 engine.
The 2005 Volkswagen Jetta has a 5-speed manual.
on my 97 jetta (same model) just open the trunk with your key and then close it
by using hand
