Use an ohmeter to test tesistance where the plug wires connect to the coil-it should read 12,000. now for the the primaray side where the signal wires connect to the coil should be 2-3 ohms.
Press both turn-signal buttons simultaneously.
Under the seat. Between the battery and the fuel tank. Right under the slot your seat tongue slides into there is a larger hole in the frame...In that hole you see a silver box with a grey 8-place deutsch connector. You found the turn signal module

There is no flasher, it has a turn signal module under the seat, one bolt in the center holds a flat module, about 2 in by 3 in
On newer Sportsters the module is located under the battery. You have to remove the battery then pull up on the rectangular cover of the module on the bottom of the battery tray.
You can replace it with any 12volt flasher you want, provided that its rated load is the same as the wattage of the signal bulbs you are using.
The turn signal canceller P/N 68537-89(C) is zip ties to the right fork tube under the plastic triple tree cover.

I have a 99 Sportser which should be the same. Mine just went out and it is located under the seat bolted to the rear fender.
The emergency signal flasher module can be found below the dashboard, on the drivers side of the engine compartment. The emergency signal flasher module simply plugs in and out.
