The wettest place in Australia is reputed to be Tully on the east coast of northern Queensland with a total rainfall of over 4 metres per year.

On the Australian continent, the north Queensland towns of Tully and Babinda frequently vie to win the "Golden Gumboot" award each year. Tully used to win the annual award, but Babinda has now won it for seven consecutive years, recording an average annual rainfall of 4200mm.

If one were to regard the 'wettest place' as meaning the greatest number of rain days a year, this honour would most likely go to Macquarie Island, Tasmania with over 310 days of rain each year. However, rainfall is a mere 1 metre (1000mm) per year, a pittance compared to that which occurs in far north Queensland.
