A problem with the ABS has been detected - it could be a sensor , a fuse , your brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder might be a little low , the wiring connection to the ABS control unit etc , take it to a professional and get it checked out.

On my 2000 Montana the ABS light came on when the drivers side rear wheel hub sensor for ABS malfunctioned. If this is the problem, you have to change the whole wheel hub because it is made as one unit. you have a bad connection, probably @ a wheel abs wiring, a visual inspection may see which one or service shop scope test

If it is GM it is Centering malfunction, steering wheel position center did not detect a centered wheel. Bad steering wheel position sensor, poor wiring connection, or bad EBCM (ABS control module)....check the connections first.

Disconnect the brake lines and wiring harness from it and put the new one in. YOU will need to bleed the brakes after your done. Make sure to disconect the battery of the truck before you unplug the wiring harness
You may have damaged an ABS sensor or ABS sensor wiring. Go back and check each wheel.

The ABS runs a self test within the ABS system at each start up if the light stays on then you have a problem within the ABS system. The ABS module has some history of the connections coming apart at the welds and can be repaired by sending them to qualified personal. this will save allot of money from the other option of just replacing the unit. The ABS is the Anti Lock Braking System and can be related to a wheel sensor connection also.
How does automotive multiplex systems work? Each of the systems (ABS, Engine, Airbag ect) has a control unit. Each of these control units has a transmitter and a receiver to "talk" to the other units. The units are "ranked" according to safety or the systems that they control. As an example, this is how the system would operate. The ABS system receives a message fom the wheel sensors to say that the wheels have locked. The ABS unit sends a message to the engine unit to reduce throttle angle (acceleration). At this point, the ABS unit has priority to send messages. The vehicle fails to stop and crashes. At this point the airbag (SRS) unit sends out a crash signal. Now, the SRS unit has priority, as it is safety crittical.
