On my 89 LX 4cyl Mustang it is located in the passenger side front fender,,,
Dyson makes very good handheld vacuums, but Oreck is probably the best model available. Another option is a cannister vacuum. Since the cannister isn't carried or is slung over your back it's just as easy to do the stairs with a cannister vacuum as a handheld vacuum.
It is that black can looking thing on the left front of the engine comparrment. It has vacuum and eletrical lines.
A cannister vacuum, especially a backpack vacuum is the best choice. It's not because it's lighter, but because you only have the business end of it to fool with.
The oxygen cannister has a higher filtration which is more expensive but great for your home, especially for allergy suffers etc.
Mostly they clip onto the outside.A cannister vacuum rarely has the interior space for such an arrangement and it's easier to just have the attachments ride piggyback.

Hey, I am looking for the exact same thing. I hope someone answers soon...
The PCV valve is located in the back of the lower intake manifold. It should have a 3/8" hose going from the PCV valve to a vacuum source on the upper intake manifold.

A cannister type vacuum will almost always outperform an upright because of the inherent limitations of the design. The cannister puts the mechanical stuff well out of the way of the business end you get better suction and you can get to more places easily.
To the Haynes manual!
If it is like my 2001 Nissan Sentra, there is a cover behind the drivers side tire. It bolts on in the front and 2 quills click into the charcoal cannister. The cover comes off and the white plastic piece is the vacuum cut valve bypass valve. Nissan price $140.00-Wilton Nissan. I also did as recommended, and replaced the valve on the cannister, and the solenoid -the bolt on the canister broke as is evidently common. Replace cannister. Whole job (I did the labor) about $600.00
