vacuum pump in a diesel, is a pump installed to create vacuum to assist in opreation of brakes in pickups tha have diesel engines, the brakes are same as any other pickup and use vacuum created by the ngine to operate. a diesel engine does not create vacuum, as a gasoline engine does. that is why there is a vacuum pump added to a small diesel engine on f250 the pump is belt driven, is on the driver side of engine, under the a/c compressor.

To remove the smog pump from a 1992 F250 with a 7.5L engine, first disconnect the battery and relieve the pressure in the cooling system. Remove the serpentine belt and disconnect the hoses attached to the smog pump. Unbolt the pump from its mounting bracket, then carefully lift it out of the engine compartment. You can create a partial vacuum at home by using a vacuum pump or by using a manual vacuum pump. Simply connect the pump to a sealed chamber or container, and then pump out the air to lower the pressure inside the chamber, creating a partial vacuum.
The engine is the vacuum pump. All the vacuum operated accessories are operated by the vacuum supplied from the engine.
