Are you talking about the Pass-Key system? because the only real way to bypass it is to put in a new ignition.
The ignition module on a 1989 5.7 liter is located in the distributor. Remove the cap, then the rotor, and you will be looking at the module. The module is held in place with two screws. Real simple. Good luck, David

What exactly is going on with the car that is making you believe that the ignition module is bad to begin with? Does it not turn over, no power, are there any lights that come on the dashboard? What kind of key is used in this car? Does it have a "chip" in the key?
