They are about 3 to 4 inches long with an electric wire in the end of them and they are screewed into the exhaust pipe/pipes. Start at the engine on both sides were the exhaust bolts to the engine and work your way back to the muffler and you will find them. You didn't say what year it was. so there might be 4 or just 2 of them in the system.
Bank 1 and 2 reference a V type engine where there would be two exhaust manifolds. The Vortec 4200 Inline 6 cylinder engine hence has one exhaust manifold and the Oxygen sensor is mounted there. (passenger side of engine).
the crankshaft position sensor is located at the underneath side of the engine right at the bottom of the timing chain cover / front of oil pan
That would be the passenger side of the engine and it will be the first oxygen sensor that's screewed into the exhaust pipe on that side.
An oxygen sensor is part of the emissions control system and sends data to the engine to help the engine operate smoothly. When defective, an oxygen sensor can impact your fuel economy, dropping by as much as 40 percent.
Bank 1 sensor 1 would be threaded into the exhaust pipe directly after the exhaust manifold on the drivers side of the engine.
In a Ford Expedition : Bank 1 is the passenger side of the engine Sensor 1 would be close to the engine before the exhaust enters the catalytic converter ( upstream sensor )
Check engine light would appear.
No it will not. The 96 vortec has a crankshaft sensor and alot of other sensors on the engine that is required so the transmission will work that will not interchange with the 92 engine. Even the fuel pump would have to be changed. You must put a VORTEC engine back in the 96 so everything will work correctly.
On a Ford Ranger ( V6 engine ) Bank 2 is the drivers side of the engine Sensor 1 would be close to the engine before the exhaust enters the catalytic converter
NO. That would be the TBI / throttle body injection engine Not a vortec. The vortec will not work in the 91.
No. It would cause the check engine light to illuminate and fail an emissions test but it would start and run.
On a Ford F-150 , bank 1 is the passenger side of the engine and sensor 2 is in the exhaust pipe after the catalytic converter ( downstream )
