LOL, I am answering my own question, but Im sure it will help someone down the road. My speedometer quit working the same time the car quit shifting out of 2nd gear. This is a safe mode the car goes into when the speedometer sensor goes out. I replaced the sensor which is located on the top of the transaxle. I reached down with my hand and arm between the engine and firewall, and lossened the 10mm nut and pulled out the old sensor which had a milky greasy substance around it, maybe from overheatin, but I pulled it out and put the new one in and it ran like a champ. I also added a little transmission oil from the dipstick around the o-ring and it slipped right in. Tightened the bolt and was finished.
